Erik Orsenna: “I won’t go to Iceland by plane ! “

Erik Orsenna was officially presented yesterday to Paimpol, as godfather of the edition 2009. During his intervention, the famous novelist and French Academician said that he well planned to make the race in a boat and not by plane. Here is an active godfather!

The 4th edition of SKIPPERS D'ISLANDE will start the June 27th, 2009 from Paimpol. Yesterday, the organizer has presented the race's godfather: Erik Orsenna. In the presence of the local press, the political personalities and organizer's partners, the famous novelist, French Academy member's, has explained the reasons of his commitment. Born in Paris in 1947, Erik Orsenna is passionate by the sea and more particularly the sail: «it is a big honour for me to have been chosen to be the godfather of this lovely race. When I was young, I navigated with my father around the Brehat Island and I spent there almost all my holidays. The racing course seems to me particularly enticing and original, more especially because I always dreamed visit Iceland! And do not count on me to go there by plane… because I really want to take part to the race on a boat. I will not be a passive, but a quite active godfather »
